How we shape a Worongary yard:
- Levels first. Terrace heights are set out from surveyed levels so the lawn, the steps and the house all agree with each other.
- Drained as it is shaped. Each level gets fall and a spoon or swale drain, so water crosses the yard instead of sitting in the middle of it.
- Depth under the turf. Subgrade is shaped and compacted, then screened topsoil is placed deep enough for grass to actually root into.
- Handed back clean. Access routes are planned so the finished yard is not scarred with track marks and stockpile scars.

The catch on a ridge block is that everything you shape ends up pointing at the neighbour below. Concentrating flow at one point on the low boundary creates erosion and an argument, so we spread runoff across the terraces, catch it in spoon drains and take it to a lawful discharge point rather than letting it find its own way over the edge. Where the low side has to be built up to gain a usable level, fill is placed in compacted layers and retained properly, so the lawn is not still settling a year after the turf goes down.
