- Around 100 millimetres of good screened topsoil gives turf enough depth to root and hold moisture through a dry spell. Less than that over compacted clay is the most common reason new lawn struggles.
- Can a sloping backyard be levelled without retaining?
- Only where the fall is gentle enough to absorb into a batter. Once you want a genuinely flat area on a steep block, something has to hold the cut face, and that means a wall or a stabilised batter.
- Will earthworks damage established trees?
- Cutting or filling inside the root zone can kill a mature tree months later, so levels are planned around the ones worth keeping. Where that is not possible, we say so before the work starts rather than afterwards.
